Some of Romania’s legendary sportswomen celebrated in Budapest event

The performances of some of Romania’s legendary sportswomen, medallists at the Olympic Games, were celebrated on Friday in Budapest during the event “OlimpiCulture. Memory and values,” organised in the context of the Paris Summer Olympics by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Budapest together with the Romanian Embassy to Hungary, Agerpres reports.

On this occasion, at the Romanian Embassy to Hungary, a photographic exhibition of unique moments from the AGERPRES Photographic Archive was opened, featuring photographs of the Olympic Games, capturing moments during the Olympic Games and showing the effort, suffering and joy of those who have become myths of Romanian and world sport.

The event was attended by athletes Maricica Puica and Gabriela Szabo, gymnasts Andreea Raducanu, Simona Amanar and Maria Olaru, fencers Laura Gabriela Carlescu Badea and Roxana Barladeanu and swimmer Camelia Potec, who shared the stories behind the Olympic medals.The event also saw the participation of diplomats, representatives of the Romanian community in Budapest, athletes. On Saturday morning, a cross-country race was organised in the Varosliget Park in Budapest, where amateur competitors were joined by some of the Romanian Olympic medal winners, Minister of Environment Mircea Fechet, Romanian Ambassador to Hungary Gabriel Sopanda, and ICR Budapest head Ioana Anghel. The start was given by Olympic athlete Maricica Puica.
